Narrowed my acoustic amp search to two: Fishman Loudbox Mini and the Acoustasonic 40. Was able to try out the Fishman but there were no Acoustasonic 40s to demo, as it was a new amp. Ultimately decided to order in the Fender, mostly because of the significantly lower price. It took a while, but I finally got it this week.
First impressions: No buyer's remorse here... this is a great amp! It is ridiculously light and portable. The controls are simple and the built in reverb is more than decent. It took about 2 minutes to find a very good reverb setting for my vocals on one channel and the right amount of reverb for guitar on the second. Haven't touched the reverb since.
Speaking of controls, the dials on each channel offer a lot of variation for vocals or guitar. If you have a personal sound preference, you'll probably find it. As for volume, while I have not gigged with it yet, I have a large jam room and have yet to get the volume knob up to 1/4 on either guitar or vocals. It's capable of more volume than I expected and more than sufficient for my needs.
So is the Acoustasonic 40 a Loudbox Mini killer? Well, the Mini's been the champ of this class for a few years now, so it's obviously a very good amp. But let's compare: The Fender has 20 watts less power, but twice the speakers, costs not much more than half the price, and is lighter. It HAS to be more durable than the Mini cosmetically and being a Fender, the amp itself is likely to be very reliable. If I had a Loudbox Mini I would not replace it, but if I were trying to decide between the two I'd definitely save some money and go with the Fender. Oh wait, I already did that :-).
Bottom line - the bang for buck on this amp is fantastic.

The Acoustasonic is a nice small, lightweight package...2 channels with equal features...dual XLR/1/4" inputs, EQ knobs, and reverb...easy to use...the amp just didn't have the clarity I'm used to in an acoustic guitar amp...it only has 2 "full range" speakers and no tweeters or horns...although the amp had great features, it just didn't have the sound I was looking for, so I sent it back...

Comments about Fender Acoustasonic 40 40W 2x6.5 Acoustic Guitar Amplifier:

I have been using Yamaha DXR12's, DBR10's, and a trusty Acoustasonic Junior for my Taylors depending upon the venue. Wanted something small and light for a small regular church gig with a vocalist where the acoustics are great, i.e., I don't need a ton of power. The Fishman Loudbox Mini would have been perfect, but I always felt it was overpriced, including used ones, which always looked beat up due to the easily torn tolex they use. The Acoustasonic 40 is perfect for my needs. I bought a level 3 return that was described as having a tear in the tolex, and it turns out the tear was less than half the size of my smallest fingernail. For over one third off, this was an awesome deal, especially compared to a Mini. Bass response is what you'd expect from 6.5 inch speakers, comparable to the Mini, less than the Junior or certainly my powered speakers. Only effect I wanted was reverb, didn't need chorus. Combo inputs work great with guitar or mic, plenty of volume with SM58 mics.

Louder than I expected, for it's size. I love the look. I mainly use the Acoustasonic 40 as a home PA, for my wife and I. I also use it for bedroom practice. It sounds better with an electric guitar, than my Fender Champion 300 DSP. The two 6.5" full range speakers sound good, and it's less tinny sounding, than the Champion. I like that it doesn't have a high frequency tweeter, as most of the low priced ones sound poor. I would have bought the Acoustasonic 90, if it moved more air. A 10" speaker or two 8" speakers would work better for me.

THIS ACCUSTIC AMP MADE A BIG DIFFERENCE IN THE SOUND OF THE GUITAR. THE AMP IS GOOD QUALITY IN ALL RESPECTS AND I WOULD RECOMEND IT AS A AMP FOR HOME OR A GIG IN A SMALLER VENUE. IT COULD ALWAYS BE AMPED THROUGH THE MAINS IF MORE VOLUME IS NEEDED. I AM TOTALLY HAPPY WITH MY PURCHASE

The only thing I didn,t know about this amp. . it won,t sound good with a pg58 mic, i tried it and I had to turn the volume all the way up, I tried it with a VTECH MIC and it worked great, I had to turn the volume way down. I don,t know WHY!!!
