OVERVIEW

Vintage-style, two-channel design with plenty of power for the stage.

The 1690T Coronado is Supro's top-of-the-line 1964 reissue tube amplifier. True to the original, this luxurious 2x10, 35-Watt combo delivers remarkable dynamic range with a clear, full sound. The Coronado maintains clean headroom throughout a large chunk of the volume control’s range, making it an excellent platform for a myriad of musical styles, from fat round jazz tones to country twang, stinging blues and—when ramped up to full throttle raging rock 'n' roll.

The bold and classic American tone of the 1690T amp is defined by the “Class A” dual-6L6, tube-rectified Supro power amp that is also found in the Thunderbolt amp. Feeding all of this touch-sensitive power through a pair of high-power Supro drivers, the Coronado’s tone remains clear, even when it’s distorted. The 1690T has ample headroom to accommodate pedals and gets easily loud enough to play large-venue and theatre stages.

The Coronado’s 2-channel preamp provides a broad spectrum of sounds with its dual volume and tone controls as well as shared tremolo circuit. Plugging into IN 1+2 links both preamp channels in parallel for double the input signal and double the gain. This clever topology lets you hit the power amp as hard as necessary and even allows “channel switching” in its purest form, using a simple A/B switch.

The 1964 reissue Supro Coronado’s vintage-correct, lightweight cabinet carries a matched pair of custom 10” Supro speakers to deliver serious punch and remarkable articulation even when the amp is pushed into exultant tube saturation. Custom-designed high-power Supro transformers and matched 5881/6L6WGC military-spec power tubes ensure consistent vintage tone night after night.

Comments about Supro 1690T Coronado 35W 2x10 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

I use this amp in my living room. This is a two channel no thrills tone monster that is more versatile than I anticipated. Very good bottom end Fender type warmth, to more of a dark tone, the tremolo is very usable unlike my trem pedals. The amp is way overkill for my needs, but I have reached the age where I can afford the amps and guitars I've always wanted so what the heck....if I didn't like it I would have sent it back in a heartbeat, however, once you noodle around with this amp for a few hours you will hear what the amp is best known for (Zeppelin) and other classic rock and blues tones, it's there and it's build quality is very impressive, a heavy rigid amp built like a German bunker. Assembled is the USA, parts are probably from all over the world, but this amp is a winner. Loves effect pedals.

Comments about Supro 1690T Coronado 35W 2x10 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

Solid build, 6L6s, a very nice amp. It really sings and has a great clear channel but honestly this thing does the high-gain sound incredibly well. The 1+2 parallel preamps, about a 8-10 vol level (sweet notch), and the 6L6s really sing-beautiful cascading sustained and rich harmonics- sings when pushed. Frankly you will always play at this volume level with this amp it is so beautiful. But otherwise it is a little bit of a one-really-good-trick pony. Not really very flexible otherwise, no master gain, only a tone control but I love it for what it does and I'm keeping it. 50+ yr player

Comments about Supro 1690T Coronado 35W 2x10 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:

Simply an amazing amp! Channel 1+2 is thick, warm, chimey, and dynamic, with really good sustain, rich harmonics, and TONE TONE TONE. Use the Volume and Tone for each channel to create a wonderful palette of tones. Add a clean boost pedal and look out! Vintage with a little kick, this channel just sings. Beautiful!

Channel 2 is, IMO, even better. Spanky, sparkly, chimey cleans and early breakup tones, amazing sounding tremolo, fantastic overtones, undertones, and harmonics, and very musical sounding frequencies throughout. Super articulate, you can arpeggio chords when dimed and clearly hear each note, even as the amp is dishing out its fantastic gain sound. No muddiness at all. Channel 2 is very vintage/retro sounding, and incredibly versatile via the amp Volume and Tone knobs, the guitar volume and tone knobs, or your picking/strumming attack.

This amp is not for the faint of heart, as your technique is highlighted - great technique sounds incredible, poor technique is easily noticeable. The amp can produce some squeals or chirps that you don't want, if you play sloppily. Play accurately, and every frequency is wonderful. Better practice hard! But the tone that is available from this amp is truly to die for. Les Paul, Strat, PRS, all my guitars sounded incredible through the Coronado. This amp is simultaneously raunchy and sweet, LOL. Did I say it's loud? It's LOUD! Not 100 watt Marshall loud, but loud, nonetheless. I should mention also, the amp is really beautiful, and appears to be built very well.

Lived up to the billing, and worth every penny, this amp is a keeper!
