OVERVIEW

Powerful and light.

Bass rigs used to be the hardest part of getting a band to and from a gig. Once upon a time, 300-watt all tube bass heads with 8 x 10 cabinets ensured that whether or not your bass player was in good playing shape, he or she was in good physical shape. TC Electronic's BH550 delivers 500 watts in a package that weighs only 9 lbs.

TonePrint: Creativity At The Core
With the innovative TonePrint technology, if you need a swirling vintage flanger or a TubeDrive for your next rock gig, a compressor or a chorus when you play with your funk band, you simply load them into BH550. TonePrint means signature effects made by the most awesome bass players around, like Victor Wooten, Duff McKagan, Richard Bona, Nathan East and many more. These TonePrints are available for free - straight from your smartphone - and with 2 switchable TonePrint slots available, the tonal possibilities are virtually endless. With its lightweight, portable design, Intelligent EQ section, ultra-precise on-board tuner and unlimited tonal versatility through TonePrint, the BH550 is a tool that will help you to define and perfect your sound and your unique approach to bass.

EQ!
With the BH550's intelligent EQ section, TC Electronics have established themselves as being ahead of the tone-tailoring curve. Behind the deceptively simple four-dial design lies a frequency range perfectly tuned for bass. Whether you like your sound scooped, fat and groovy or filled with high-end sparkle, the BH550's tone controls will cut and boost in all the right places, leaving you sounding your best every time.

Built-In Tuner
The BH550's ultra-precise onboard tuner is there when you need it. It's always on, so you constantly have a clear read of whether you're in tune or not. With a frequency range that supports up to six-string basses, you can be sure that your low-notes will always be in tune.

Balanced Output
Use the balanced output to send a signal to a PA or a sound engineer when playing live, or use it as a high-quality bass preamp in the studio when recording, taking advantage of the tone controls and TonePrint features. Choose between sending a pre signal for a completely clean and direct sound or choose post to get the flavor of the amp.

Plug & Play
Use your phone, MP3 player or similar to jam along your favorite tracks. Just plug it into the AUX input and you're ready for a rehearsal session, combining your favorite music with your favorite bass tone.

Comments about TC Electronic BH550 550W Bass Amp Head:

I will use this amp for practice and gigging. It does have a great tone. I had purchased a used K12 TC can on a whim. Plugged it up to my Ampeg head and it Farted out at modest volumes. I plugged it up to a Peavey head and more of the same. I plugged it into this and WOW!!! It works. I plugged my SVT 810 in this amp and another wow. SWR cab and Wow. Carvin cab and Wow. It has great tone control but most of all it's just a good clean modern or old school. Then there's the Tone Print. There are about a thousand pedals to choose from. Exaggerated but plenty and then some.

No this doesn't sound like an Ampeg amp. No it doesn't sound like an Aguilar. Both good. Great for their sound. This is in its on category though. Not like anyone else. Please, do yourself a favor, buy this. It works for everything. Glassy highs, Sweet lows and too many pedals to choose from. If it breaks or gets stolen I will run to the phone to buy another.

Comments about TC Electronic BH550 550W Bass Amp Head:

In 30 years of playing bass, this is the best sounding amp that I have ever played through. I have used GK MB210 x 2 for the past 10 years and absolutely love the GK sound. Unfortunately my days of playing live are behind me and I was looking for something smaller and more portable, just in case. If it were not for the sound, I would have only given 3 or maybe 4 stars due to the marketing of this amp. I have not yet had to deal with customer service, but finding info on this amp in regards to being used in the U.S. was a little challenging. Also the whole TonePrint thing is a bit misleading. For the bass amps, there are not hundreds of possible effects, only a handful that work with the amps. If you have the actual pedals, your options improve greatly. From the app, the only effects that work with the amp are those under TonePrint Bass Amps. Not really a major issue unless you are looking to use effects like Phasers, Vibrato, Delay etc. A lot of the artists that have done TonePrints, did them for specific pedals and not the amps. The other issue is that I have tried every trick listed by TC Electronic and other users and my Android phone simply does not work with the app. The TonePrints I am using, which add alot to the sound, had to be loaded via my computer. I feel the quality and construction of the amp is great, the only improvement that I would like to see is with the selector switch for the TonePrints and the mute switch. To me they just seem a little cheap, although I realize that they were designed to help save on size and weight. Again, the basic sound of the amp and the sound from the TonePrints that I am using definately warrents Five Stars.

Comments about TC Electronic BH550 550W Bass Amp Head:

"TonePrint"operation and use, should be explained in a much more elementary way. Not everyone is tech savvy,so many of us need to be told exactly how to accomplish each step in transferring the desired sound effects from a Smartphone,or other source,to the TC amp head,in the most basic language possible -- as if we're 3rd graders. I would venture to say, that if instructions regarding how to use these features are not made more clearly, people will just give up on using them. I've given up on trying to use bass sound effects (pedals)for the same reasons : I could never get them to work right, because of confusing, and or,terribly written instructions. Anyway, this amp has a great all around sound, and I really do like it;and am sure that I'll like it even more when I figure out how to use the TonePrint. Great product though !
