Got this for my vacation since it's size and battery operated, I hooked it up to my PC to get more out of it than knobs let's you get like different cabs, compression and noise gate, so fun making my own presets ! The Southern High thru a vintage 4X12 is my favorite, and adjusting the volume, gain & master give you ANY tone from Blues to full blown metal and clean with compressor & reverb will be all you need for your Tele and Strat ! I played my American Precision Bass and Martin thru it too with equally pleasing results. Just pull the trigger and get one, I went with this high gain after trying the Classic which lacked the amount of gain I was wanting and was pleasantly surprised at the cleans on it ! Be sure to download Yamaha's link and let the tone tweaking fun begin, i sat messing with it for hours yesterday and going back today to readjust more for my upcoming vacation

This amp is ok, for the price it could have been amazing if it included a foot switch to change channels on the amp. I use it to jam at home since I live in a apartment and can't have big amps, having to stop playing to press a button to change channels is lame. I don't understand how it could have been missed.

Comments about Yamaha THR10X High-Gain Modeling Combo Amp:

This maybe a practice amp but, it will blow you away with the sound you can get out of it. Very rich sound full of harmonics and overtones that is pleasant to the ear. Volume output is very good and you can still turn it down and continue to get a rich sound. Go to the Yamaha THR channel on YouTube and check out the demos. I am very pleased with the amp and it just has the Mojo that inspires you to play!

    Holy high-gain!

Comments about Yamaha THR10X High-Gain Modeling Combo Amp:

The sound quality of this tiny amp is surprisingly AWESOME. It has a really "full" sound and you'd think a speaker cabinet much larger was providing its tone. The high gain settings are really face-melting, but you can also get great clean sounds, or anything in between.

I love the reverb, but the delay, chorus, flange and phaser effects are a bit limited compared to what you'd get on a devoted pedal, but for the price it's a sure thing.

Small, light, powerful (loud), headphone and MP3 capability all add up to a great product, I highly recommend this to anyone interested.

Comments about Yamaha THR10X High-Gain Modeling Combo Amp:

If this was a tube amp, players would be falling over themselves and paying thousands to get one. But this is a solid state modeling amp, so some "tube snobs" may dismiss the amp. Huge mistake. Their loss.

I own tube amps from Marshall,Mesa Boogie,Hughes and Kettner, and Blackstar, and my THR10x gets played the most. So easy to play and so easy to dial in and get the sounds you want. Want AC/DC? Van Halen? Ozzy? 80s rock? Modern metal? Blues? Even cleans. This amp does it quick and easy, and sound great doing it.

Yamaha markets this as a player's 3rd amp. It is PERFECT for practicing in your room. While it can get loud, I really like how I can get huge distortion at very low volumes. It has multiple presets, built in effects, is portable, and can even run on batteries if you want to use it where there is no power. This is an amazing amp that I wish was available when first started playing guitar. It would have saved me plenty of time and money I spent searching for other amps.

My last amp was a Peavey 6505+, which I thought was the best sounding amp I ever had. Well as of yesterday I've changed my mind. This little green monster is so versatile and powerful that I can't believe it's real.

Comments about Yamaha THR10X High-Gain Modeling Combo Amp:

This is a great modeling amp. Has clean tones and does all of the great amp sounds right out of the box. I have not even tried the software...I will get to it:) Great for practicing or jamming at home or with friends. Good volume. Uses 8 AA batteries or wall plug in. Additional effects work well. I like it a bit better than the Fender Mustang Mini or the Vox, both nice portable amps, but the volume, tone and effects out of the box are a bit better on the Yamaha. I still use the others for different amp tones. This unit is a little more than the other portable amps, too, but worth the difference.

set the gain 9 oclock and master cranked for "clean" on all of the amp models or set both the gain and master at 1:30 for rich leads. The bonus fender amp in position 6 is great. So impressed. I owm Vox AC 30, Marshall JCM 800 Fender deluxe etc and this works so well. Guitar Output(2nd to last Knob) sounds best between 9-1 oclock. No way I can get my tube amps that low and sound that good. PS the Hall reverb is incredible.

Comments about Yamaha THR10X High-Gain Modeling Combo Amp:

I just got this little monster in and I am very very happy I bought it. I researched many practice amps and was almost ready to spend about a grand when I came across this dude. It has all the sound of the bigger amps in a compact easy to use 10w version, which is great if you have little people in your house who like to sleep!

This thing got 5 stars because it is worth it! great price and very fun to play with. I think my favorite part about this amp in general, is that you can plug in your phone or IPOD and jam to any music you want while all through your head phones and not get on your wife or girlfriends nerves.

Listen I am a tube snob and was very skeptical about this amp at first, but once I got it dialed in- I couldn't stop playing with it. The sounds this thing can make are limitless, anything from Bluesy all the way through to the most metal sounding bands. I play a lot of rock/metal and so I really like that you can dial in a lot of gain all while at low volumes. the clean channel is very poppy like an old Fender reverb amp very clean and clear.

The only thing I would have done differently, was I would have bought the tote bag that comes with it- that way you can keep up with the cables it comes with. Not a big deal, but would be worth the extra cash if you can swing it. GO BUY THIS AMP- if you still aren't convinced just check out all the videos on youtube. that's what sold me on it.

I bought the 10X high-gain after buying both the 10, and 10C. The 10 covers the spectrum of low to high gain, The 10C low-gain modeling loves Fenders, and the 10X high-gain loves Les Pauls. The gain stage on all of them is very accurate, and they all clean up wonderfully. If you have nice guitars you'll love these puppies.

Comments about Yamaha THR10X High-Gain Modeling Combo Amp:

First of all I would like to thank the very knowledgeable customer service rep that took my call. I was going to order the THR10 and then he questioned what type of music I played. After listening to me he recommended the THR10X (high gain) model over the THR10. I didn't even know they had the THR10X which is much more suitable to my style of playing.

This is the consummate portable amp with all the whistles and bells. This will be excellent to travel with its light weight and size.

I had originally ordered a Vox Mini Soundbox and fortunately for me it was on B.O. for months. I finally tried one at my local GC and the THR10X blows the Vox out of the water in every category. MF and Yamaha can't be beat:-)

Comments about Yamaha THR10X High-Gain Modeling Combo Amp:

It sounds very good and when miked it has an incredible tube type feel , the warmth and pick attack especially if you play fast . It also brings out your guitars natural timbre and percussive feel , which a lot of amps do not .
One sweet bonus is the fact that has a transparent auxiliary input , that works great and your devices sound is not manipulated by the amplifiers knobs , just the auxiliary volume , so it's cool if you want to jam with songs, or listen to tunes .
The sound is awsome , and the brown II sound is definitely 5150 ish . Totally worth the money . The clean channel is not that loud , but sounds very clean .
Miked up with a senheiser e-609 it is almost a dead ringer for my 50 watt 5150iii . It will smoke any line 6 product on any day . I love it and even though it's not super loud it's fun enough and miked through a p.a , could totally be justified in a performance setting. try it !

The amp has some really great sounds. However the software supplied is impossible to register. I spent over an hour without success. The serial/registration number has much fewer numbers/characters than the registration field requires. I do recommend you buy this amp but don't do it for the included software, if it doesn't work it is not worth the money.

The amp has a rich, high gain sound with a ton of harmonics, totally smokes.

Comments about Yamaha THR10X High-Gain Modeling Combo Amp:

I did lots of research prior to buying this. I had no idea how great it would sound. I have briefly play aq JCM stack, and even a dual rec. This thing sounds so close to those. Seriously it sounds like a tube amp. This is the best amp I have ever played. I was looking for the tube warmth of mesa/marshall but at bedroom levels, I went thru tons of amps, spent thousands and found this. I will never buy another amp. Do yourself a favor buy this and buy it now. If you need a tube warm distorted sound at bedroom levels this is your answer. Do not hesitate. If you do not like it just return it with musicians friends 30 day return policy. Just try it. I promise you will not return it.

Comments about Yamaha THR10X High-Gain Modeling Combo Amp:

I've seen these units in the musician's magazine a number of times, but never really gave them a second look. I figured they were just another boutique-looking gizmo. And Yamaha is definitely not something I consider when pondering high-gain. I accidentally stumbled on a few videos online, and I was impressed. How is this so, and why am I not aware of this?

So I bought online without even giving it a test drive, which I tend not to do after being let down with other products. I am extremely happy with this product. Big sounds, and can certainly fool the most discerning ear. Tones are there, and the feel is tube-like. My other amps are tube, and I am dabbling with the notion of selling them for a small PA system, and just stereo mic this bad-boy. I can't believe I just said that.

I won't go into everything I like, but I would like to offer up two possible suggestions for Yamaha to take into consideration.

Channel Switching: since there are five quick access memory slots on the unit, why not create a channel switching jack near those. A footswitch doesn't really cost that much, and the user could purchase his/her own. But enable it to switch between memory slots 1 and 2.

External Stereo Jacks: I curiously plugged my new Marshall Stanmore (Bluetooth/line-in) speaker into the headphone jack, and I was amazed to hear a lot more bottom-end, which the unit lacks due to the tiny speakers. It would be nice to have external stereo jacks that would plug into a stereo power amp. When you plug anything into the headphone jack, it automatically disables the internal speaker. I would like to have the option of running internal, external, or both.

Comments about Yamaha THR10X High-Gain Modeling Combo Amp:

This thing is so amazing that I can't believe it actually exists. For years I was dreaming of Mesa/Boogie Rectifier sound (similar to Rammstein) within my apartment in a house full of neighbors. Over the years I have tried many distortion/overdrive plugins, major hardware/software solutions for PC and Mac. The results were unconvincing. I was desperately thinking about buying Rectifier which, of course, is way too powerful for apartment (even 25 Watts). If you ever played on tube amps you know, that their sound is crystal clear on high gain. Also tube amps are precisely reproducing nuances like angle of attack and strength of palm muting. Yamaha THR10X is acting the same way as tube amp - the distortion is crystal clear and play nuances are precisely audible. The advertising statement on the box "big amps response" is truth. Build quality is on par with its incredible sound. The unit and the AC adapter work in complete silence. I was hesitating between THR5, THR10, and THR10X models. I visited the store several times to play on each of them. It turned out that THR5 is too basic: THR5 does not have FLAT response which is very convenient for getting really undistorted sound with only chorus/delay effects; the TONE regulator of THR5 is restricting compared to the natural BASS/MIDDLE/TREBLE control of THR10(X). For metal music style the sound of THR10X is notably deeper and more authentic to high gain tube amps compared to THR10. The modes POWER I and SOUTHERN HI of THR10X give more space and clarity compared to modes BRIT HI and MODERN of THR10. Besides of metal I play classic music on Yamaha Silent Guitar SLG100N. The best thing about Silent Guitar is that it gives very uncolored sound. And it turned out that the best mode for Silent Guitar is FLAT, because CLEAN mode gives audible "gain" distortion on any settings. Thanks to the built-in tuner it is very easy to change between Standard/Dropped tunings. All in all, if you want to play metal in your apartment then buy this amp.

The Yamaha team has really done a great job with this amp. It's perfect fit for purpose. I have 3 other amps, 1 tube and two solid state. I can easily dial in the tone I want without much trouble and not annoy the neighbours. Since I have purchased its taken its place as the primary practice amp. What is missing as others have noted, and I have with other amps, is the foot switch, something wireless would be a great addition. I might also change or provide a 1/8 the headphone jack. I also like the portability of this unit.

I had many amps to choose from & many were much cheaper than the THX10X but they were all just that... CHEAP! This amp is built tough & sounds absolutely amazing! The THX10X gives that extra high gain needed for those of us who love to rock hard!! The sound that comes from this little amp is indescribable & one of the BEST I'VE HEARD FROM SUCH A SMALL AMP! But please don't et me wrong, when it comes to crystal clear sound & that extra high gain, THERE'S NOTHING SMALL ABOUT THIS AMP! I have no regrets & nothing to complain about! I love this amp!

I purchased this amp to take to Guitar Town at Coppper Mountain because of its small size features and tone quality it has and still continues to impress me with its tone and volume levels it can produce, it will make playing the open mics there super easy and a true joy! Others that i play guitar with are very amazed by its quality!
