I consider myself a professional drummer and play every day. Between the two of my bands I was on tour for 2 months out of last year and played over 100 shows in 2008. Having said that, I do not play excessively, at most 3 hours a day (at MOST). I've been drumming for about 4 years, and although I don't have as much experience with kits, I have tried almost every cymbal there is to buy. When I started playing drums I went through a variety of cheaply made sheet cymbals like Zildjians ZXT brand. It became obvious once I started playing live shows regularly that not only was I hard hitter, but I needed a cymbal to last. Z customs are advertised and promoted as "that cymbal," and to tell you the truth, they did not measure up. Z customs are loud, powerful, and strong, but they gain this by sacrificing some of the nuances and swell of an A custom. Seeing myself more often in a live setting then a studio I bought a cash pack (16+18 inch). For the first 5 months They sounded amazing. Although they needed a week or two to work in they exceeded my expecations. THEN within a week of each other, both of them cracked, and on top of it, it was a week before I left for a month long summer tour. Surprisingly, since the warranty was still in effect I sent my cymbals back with relative ease and got two brand new Z customs in the mail. Life was good again. Its been 3 months since that tour (and the new cymbals) and I find my self in the same situation. Within a week both cracked. The 18 has a 2 inch crack from the outside of the cymbal and the 16 has a 3 inch crack running along the middle circumference. Is this a disspointment? Yes and No. After all with my previous experience I almost expected this to happen, but inside, there was a little glimmer of hope that I might have a set of cymbals last me at least a year.I need advice as much as anyone. Im not the hulk. I weight 150 pounds and Im 6 4. a skinny string bean. All in all these are great cymbals, but just a little too good to be true.

I bought the 16" expecting the usual Zildjian sound and quality im used to. I was sadly mistaken. This cymbal sounds exactly like hitting my z custom top hi hat by itself. My friends and drum teacher even said the sound sucked. I exchanged this cymbal for a paiste crash, paiste ride, paiste cymbal polish, vic firth 4-pack of sticks and some cymbal felt all for the same price as this one cymbal. I was not disapointed in my new purchases. The only thing I liked about this cymbal was how it looks.

This is one sweet cymbal. Very loud and penetrating. Crisp and clean. Awesome sustain!

Good cymbal for the hard rockers out there!

By JoE-cpDob

Built sturdy. Nice and thick, and can take a beating!

I bought the 19" of this cymbal about 4 months ago. It's a great cymbal for things like regular rock, but I also play some post-hardcore stuff and this thing is just not as loud as I thought it would be. I'm a little disappointed to say the least. Get it if you want but it's not THAT loud. I also own a ZHT Rock crash and I can get more volume out of that.

I just played this at a small show and we didnt use mics, and this cymbal came through. i only bought it cuz it was loud but it sounds good too. zildjian did a great job with this one.

Crack like Glass

By Twisted Thorn Drummer

I wouldn't recomend this cymbal for long time use for the hard hitter. I've cracked 5 of these including the 17", 18", and even the 19. And I've cracked them in many places from chips and cracks on the edges, to halo cracks in the middle. I hit extremely hard so if your a heavy hitter, go somewhere else.

These are for the closet A Custom lover...

Z Customs are designed for the guy that loves A Customs, but know he will break them (That's why I bought these, anyway). I am an extremely heavy hitter, and I have had a full set of Z Custom cymbals (14"HH; 16/18/19" Crashes; 21" MegaBell ride; 18"China; 12"Splash) for over 2.5 years. The only cymbal I have broken was a 19" crash, cracked by an over-zealous student using bad technique. These cymbals can take whatever you can give. I do not recommend using sticks smaller than a 5A with them, however. If you do not like the thickness of the crashes, I do recommend that you check out the rides, hihats, and splashes. One other thing: If you're going to use ANY crash as an overhead crash/ride, be sure you're using 19" or better size. 18" cymbals can only take so much abuse.

great cymbals

By malledrummer

from new paris,oh

I got these cymbals simply for the fact that I needed a top quality sound, and I needed something I could slam on now and then and not crack easily! So far so good they sound like a heavy version of the custom A's.I was worried about how loud they were going to be loud, but if your a drummer who know how to use volume control they are fine.

I bought this crash months ago and was blown away! I play somewhat hard and this crash never fails me. Great if your ending a drum fill, great for "riding" on and awesome for breakdowns in punk or hardcore music. This extremely versitile and respectable crash is great for any genre. I like the decent price as well.

Excellent Cymbals

These are excellent cymbals, and are quite durable. If you like to have your cymbals more aesthetically pleasing by not angling them, then you risk cracking them. So, angle them a bit more down, so that the stick strikes it more flush. You will get a better and more versatile sound, and the cymbals will last much longer.

very loud and durable!

This crash is perfect for a heavy hitter like me. But it has way too much ring. It rings for like 5 minutes. even if you hit it lightly. In my opinion,to heavy and durable to get a good sound.

Loud and Raw!

By Paolo Chavez

from Dubai, UAE

It may be low pitched but it's amazing tone gives you an amazing touch! I'm a drummer who consitently rides on crash cymbals and I have an 18" which isn't good for that. But blowing it gives the full purpose of this cymbal. It really rocks!

Post-hardcore/alternative drummer

In my opinion, this cymbal was not made to be hit. It ring forever after you hit it, however it does have a nice bell on it.Very durable. Just doesn't sound to my likes.

16 Z Custom Rock Crash

By Dave-fqMi8

I asked for this cymbal for Christmas because the description for Z Customs sounded like my style of playing. So I got it for Christmas and liked it after I got used to it because before I had extremely low quality cymbals. But after I heard A Customs I knew they had a better sound and I compared them, the Z Custom would like it's higher pitched, but A Customs are higher pitched but not to the point where you cover your ears because the decay is quicker. But these are good if you are in a band and need to be heard, but so are A Customs so in my opinion go for the A Customs.

Suitable for metal

I've been using Zildjian cymbals for some time now and they are unquestionably the world's best cymbals. I AM, however, a bit disappointed with the range of this particular cymbal as it's actually too heavy and too loud for me - playing in a hardcore band. Playing live it's good, cutting nicely through the guitars, but while practicing, not worth the money. Rather go for the more diverse A customs ...

This crash is awesome! I just got it about a week and a half ago and I love it. It is VERY loud. I think it has a kind of weird tone, (the bell was beat up because of some rough shipping) but you can still work it into music a lot. This is my 4th z custom cymbal in my setup and I love them! The only thing that compares to the z series is the a series. Overall, AWESOME CYMBAL!

Z-Customs pave the way for top-of-the-line cymbals

By CoyoteWildfire

from Macedon, NY

These cymbals are nothing short of amazing. I own the 16" and 18" Zildjian Z-Custom Rock Crashes. I would highly, HIGHLY recommend these to any drummer, experienced or not. A friend of mine owns the 16" Z-Custom Medium Crash. While I do prefer the sound of the Medium Crash to the Rock Crash, the Medium Crashes don't have the guts to penetrate in a live show like the Rock Crashes do. These cymbals are nothing short of amazing. And, if you're like me and enjoy riding the bell of a crash, these cymbals have plenty of it to go around!

I have been playing paiste signature for 6 years now cause the quality versus sound was the best but i would go through them quick. SO i took a chance and when with a 16, 18, 20 inch rock crash and i am nothing but happy, i replaced my whole set up with zildjian Z's, they rock.
