About Mackie DRM Series Loudspeakers

The DRM Series is Mackie’s flagship lineup of professional loudspeakers. It’s designed to raise the bar for quality audio and change the way you think of portable sound. Whether you’re a mobile DJ, night club owner or a rock band on tour, there’s a perfect DRM PA speaker for you. The Mackie DRM Series is available in both powered and passive models. Its active speakers offer class-leading power with Class-D amplifiers on board. Both the powered and unpowered models are rugged, built to withstand tough use from professional DJs, bands and other live musicians. Mackie also designed each DRM PA speaker with permanent venue installation in mind. They’re ideal for rental houses, churches and other houses of worship. Pro-grade rigging points give you the freedom to use the DRM Series to fit your venue’s needs. Mackie has even included a line array model in the DRM Series.

Mackie’s DRM Series consists of the DRM212, DRM215, DRM315 and DRM12A full-range speakers. Both the DRM212 and DRM12A are fitted with 12” woofers, while the DRM215 and DRM315 get 15” woofers for improved bass. In addition to a larger woofer, the DRM 3-way model boasts a 6.5” midrange driver. Rounding out the DRM Series, the DRM18S subwoofer is designed to complete your DRM Series PA system with perfectly matched low-end reinforcement. Its 18” high-excursion driver gives it a frequency response down to 30Hz.

At the core of every powered speaker in the Mackie DRM Series is an efficient Class-D power module. Thanks to its potent amplifiers, the DRM Series delivers class-leading power. For example, the DRM212 and DRM215 2-way active loudspeakers both feature 800W continuous (RMS) and 1,600W peak output. The 3-way DRM315 PA speaker employs an amplifier with 1,150W RMS and 2,300W peak output. When you need serious bass in your system, the DRM18S powered sub gets the job done with its 1,000W RMS/2,000W peak output.

Every professional sound engineer knows that power alone does not define a loudspeaker. The way a speaker’s power is managed and controlled matters more. That’s why Mackie’s DRM Series features Advanced Impulse DSP. This innovative sound processing provides acoustic correction and time alignment using precision-tuned FIR filters.

Mackie’s filtering technology is not typical speaker processing. By more intelligently and thoroughly using FIR filtering, Advanced Impulse DSP removes all the anomalies that loudspeakers and horns contribute to a signal. By negating each speaker’s inherent audio characteristics—such as a muddy low end or squelching high end—Mackie’s DSP leaves nothing but perfect, clean sound. In fact, the DRM Series speakers produce clear, punchy audio more akin to what you’d experience with large touring PA systems.

For all their innovative technology, the Mackie DRM Series powered speakers are easy to use. That’s where Mackie’s DRM Control Dashboard takes center stage. The rear panel of each powered speaker in the lineup boasts a full-color display. A single knob makes it simple to navigate and change settings. Users can also adjust the screen’s brightness, contrast and activate a screensaver.

The DRM Control Dashboard puts you in the driver’s seat. Mackie DRM series speakers offer control over more performance parameters than other loudspeakers in their classes. Select from five factory-preset voicing modes to reduce setup time. Options include Live, Monitor, Club, and Speech plus an independent Sub option with variable crossover. Then, fine-tune your PA system’s audio with onboard 3-band parametric EQ. These settings let you dial in the perfect sound no matter the venue or application. Keep an eye on clipping by monitoring the dashboard’s signal level meters.

Each speaker in the DRM lineup offers alignment delay control for delay stacks. Once you’ve set your speakers the way you want them, you can save and recall the settings. In fact, the DRM Series lets you save up to six user presets to match different applications. Prevent unwanted changes by locking the screen with a unique passcode.

Mackie has packed all of this technology into a series of rugged enclosures. Each model in the DRM lineup boasts a tour-grade plywood cabinet with internal bracing. Wooden construction makes for greater durability and superior acoustics. The full-range speakers in the DRM Series feature 15 mm-thick plywood, while the DRM18S subwoofer’s plywood is 18 mm thick. Every DRM model has a textured coating for added protection against scratches and dents. Heavy-duty steel grilles with powder coating protect the custom-designed drivers of every DRM Series speaker. Robust, premium components make the DRM Series ready for professional duty.

Thanks to standard speaker pole cups built into every full-range model, the DRM Series is perfect for mobile use. DJs and musicians on the go can quickly mount the full-range speaker models atop traditional tripod speaker stands. They can also be mounted atop the DRM18S sub by using a speaker pole in the sub’s M20 threaded socket. Ergonomic carry handles simplify transportation to and from gigs.

The DRM Series is also ready to take on much bigger jobs. Each speaker is fitted with M10 rigging points for professional installations and flown applications. The DRM12A line array speaker is compatible with the optional FB100 Fly Bar, which allows it to be flown in an array with up to four other DRM12A cabinets. Further expand your concert line array by adding multiple DRM18S subwoofers to each flown stack. With more focused vertical sound dispersion, the DRM12A is great for long-throw applications.
