I have been using the same footswitch for a year and a half now. Two weeks ago while playning an outdoor show my pedal board was soaked. The Marshall footswitch stopped working so I ordered another. When the new switch came I went to try it out and just for kicks I plugged in the old one that had dried out, it works fine. I have seen some bad reviews on this product but I am not sure why. All I can say is treat your gear well, as always Marshall forever it just doesn't get any better than this.

As a Marshall fan and life-long player, I would expect beyond a shadow of a doubt that their most expensive amp - the TSL100 head and it's accompanying footswitch - would be of uncompromising quality and durability. Imagine my surprise when, low and behold, the original footswitch had THREE of FIVE buttons (switches) STOP OPERATING within a month of owning the amp! Fortunately I had a friend at a local music store who was able to simply swap me out the original for a brand new one from a store TSL package. So I'm thinking it was a fluke, considering the $1,500 price tag, and take home the new footswitch with high hopes. Not a month later the FX button stops functioning, and the middle boost channel switch only works about half the time!!! The amp itself? Fabulous. The footswitch? Well, let's just say it is by FAR the WORST piece of equipment I've ever owned - TWICE! What do you have to say for yourself Jim Marshall? This is disgraceful - and that's coming from a DIE-HARD. I feel as though there should be some kind of recall and re-design of this currently in-production portion of the TSL amplifier!

Fix yourself

By Enash

from Melbourne, Australia

I will not bother with how I feel about this unit - read the other reviews. After experience with 4 defective units the steel case is good, circuit board just ok - cable and switches unfortunately are guaranteed to fail. In the end I fixed one myself. My advice is : When you buy this footswitch immediately 1) Replace 3x SPST momentary and 2 DPDT latch switches with good quality (eg Carling). 2) Install 5 pin din socket in footswitch 3) Make up 2 new 5 pin Din cables (careful to get plug type with centre pin and don't confuse this with Midi - it is not midi), i.e. one as backup. The circuit board in the unit is basically an LED driver and switch doubouncer with some other logic control. You will have to do some re-engineering to get switches to fit in board (including drilling the PCB for larger holes). Not for the faint hearted - My brother in law is a tech type willing to work for beer. This seems extreme but is the only way to have peace of mind.

Perfect for on-stage playing, as there is no need to touch your amp.

I own it

Foot switch came with my TSL JCM 2000. I love the amp However, Like you keep reading on and on the foot switch is not what one would expect from Marshall! The very day I hooked mine up the effects button would not work, now 6 months later nothing works with this 5-way. I saved my butt off for this amp and now I am having to spend money out of my pocket to send this switch back to Korg for a new one, nice of them to do so but knowing I am going to be at a gig getting ready to switch to my lead channel and the thing won't do it's job. What a feeling. bottom line, it will fail you! Happy Giging

this is the worst-built piece of equipment I have ever seen. I had the pedal for 6 months and it died.

new amp...

By ePg5milCL

from california

I loved my jcm 2000, but i sold it and bought a peavey because of the footswitch constantly wore out on me. the cable is not detachable from the switch and the switches break constantly. the LEDs die the cable shorts easily. i waited around thinking marshall would remedy this with a new footswitch, but alas, they never came through. its too bad... marshall lost a customer because they couldn't make a decent, or even just bareable footswitch.

Poorly built

By Anonymous

This pedal is poorly built--> built to break. I've gone through 2 of them & I'm not hard on my stuff at all. I would be willing to pay extra for a pedal that would stand up to normal use. Marshall needs to do somthing about this

hot amp, junk pedal

By squirt

my tsl 2000 amp rocks ! my pedal on the other hand is junk ! it shorts out at both ends, i wish marshall would use better cable on this footswitch, for the price it should last longer !

Good features, cheap parts

By Grizz-7HPVC

from Eastern WA

I bought the TSL122 combo with this footswitch at the end of October 2003. This footswitch has seen minimal usage since then and the button for the Lead channel is already defective. I select the lead channel and from that point on no other channel can be selected. It gets stuck and I have to power off the amp. Really disappointed in the cheap footswitch that came with an absolutely rockin amp.

tsl-100 pedal

By Danster

from Melbourne Australia

Conceptually its great-individual channel, reverb and fx control. Its just that in practice the damn buttons dont work all of the time, especially the fx button. I'm thinking the cabling must be sub-standard, and I'm looking to get that replaced or fixed, but from where in Melbourne Australia?

Very cheap switches - Don't last long

By Mick5150

from Michigan

I have had to replace three of the five switches in the past year! Read Harmony Central reviews and you will see all the problems users have with these things. Marshall really screwed up with these, should have been better quality with an expensive amp head!

pedal = crap

By Schecter lover

See all my reviews

The pedals don't last more than a few months. The switches go out and will not change channels. I bought a second one when the one that came with the amp broke. When that one broke I used some of the other switches on the first one to fix that one and bought a third for back up. This time I bought a warranty because I knew the new one wouldn't last. Sure enough, within 3 months the new one broke. I'm now in the process of returning the new one. I hope I can get the new one back before the back up breaks. Grrrrrrr!!!!!Come on Marshall! an expensive pedal that lasts 3 months. You are absolutely killing me!!!!

Great Tool!

By Anonymous

I've had two TSL's for many years, with the original footswitches, playing local gigs, band practice, etc., and I've never had a problem with either footswitch. Maybe I've gotten lucky, I don't know.

JUNK

I absolutely love the tone from my TSL,however, this pedal is the biggest piece of junk on the market. The only place on the planet who stocks it is this site. Marshall has it on perpetual back order.

Another broken marshall footswitch

By Wolfman-elDr2

from Fort Lauderdale, FL

Yup, a fine amp, but can't change the channels. Footswitch is broken. I ordered a replacement toggle switch to solder in, but after replacement the footswitch still did not work. After further troubleshooting, found that the bad toggle switch latched closed and fried a circuit on the board inside - Bottom line.. it didn't work for long, and won't repair for less than what a new one costs... Wish there was another way to change channels on the amp (some kinda hot wiring where the cable receptacle is, etc...)

TSL100 5-button switch

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

I have had my TSL100 for a few years, many gigs and have not had one single problem with the switch. The only reason my review isn't all 10's, is the OD2 button should be wired next to the clean and have the lesser used crunch channel in the middle, but I just switched all that around myself, got the wiring schematic from marshall. peace.

TSL Footswitch is garbage

By Willie T

from Nashville

Like numerous other owners, my foorswitch is broken. This is perhaps the poorest quality piece of equipment ever produced by Marshall. I would certainly expect better of a company with their reputation. It has certainly been tarnished by this piece of garbage,

it sux. the concept is very simple, as is operation. but they break A LOT. and they ain't cheap. i'm about to order my fourth one including the one i got with the amp when i bought it 3 years ago. but since you have to have one to switch the channels, i'll continue buying them...
