Bought this amp several months ago. I've had a range of tube, hybrid, and solid state amps over the years, and I can say that this amp beats them all in the clean sound, and most in the overdriven sound at low volumes. There is something magical about the little 8" speaker in this thing. You can crank the volume up to 6 or 7 on the clean channel before it starts to break up, and it's definitely loud enough to jam with a drummer who knows what they are doing. I use this live occasionally, and just go through the headphone out direct into the PA, and the Cab sim sounds great, though I wish it was just a cab sim of the amp itself, rather than the orange 4x12s. It's close enough, but it means tweaking EQ settings a little. I haven't tried micing the amp, but I will in a few weeks and see how that works.

I purchased this amp for use in my home practice room for 6 string electric and pedal steel. I suppose I may have gotten a "dud", as all of the other reviews are "glowing", but here's my take on it;

The treble/mid/bass controls seem to have a marginal effect on the tone. I can turn them min to max with very little noticeable tonal change. The reverb sounds more like an echo effect than a reverb effect. Here again, I have to turn it to 3/4 or more to get much of a noticeable difference in sound.

The dirty channel is very noisy, has a lot of transistor type hum present. It is too much hum to be able to use this amp on stage, or even for practice, really. I really had high hopes for this little amp; I like to experiment, try different models, etc., and I have heard good things about Orange amps, but because of my experience with the quality of the one that I received, I am very disappointed.

On the plus side? Well, the on-board tuner works flawlessly. It looks great, it seems to be build rugged enough. There are no tears, dents, or othersidse cosmetic flawes in it,

I've been making music for over 40 years, I know what to look for in a piece of equipment, and this one "ain't got it", sad to say.

Again, I suppose I may have gotten a defective unit, but I feel an honest review should be posted in regards to the condition I received it in.

Comments about Orange Amplifiers Crush 20RT 20W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

This amp exceeded my expectations. I needed a small amp to play around with, because my normal rig (randall warhead)is not mobile and too loud. I was going to buy a marshall mg, but I had to go try out the orange. I play metal on emgs, and when I plugged in and played cemetery gates, clean and dirty, and seen that this little amp could handle every pinch harmonic better than the marshall, I didn't think twice and I purchased it. it has gobs of gain for metal, and the reverb and clean tones are fantastic too. all around great sound. all I need to plug into it is a wah, no overdrive pedals necessary.

TO KAT... dood, you MUSTA got a defective unit.
This thing is a great little amp. Voiced well, maybe a little dark, but any EQ pedal will cozy up to this unit. The aux in lets you jam to any audio source, and while it isn't the amp you'll be recording your next platinum album with, the sound is just incredible for such a small package. Strats, Gibbys, whatever... Tuner is very good, and dirty channel plus the gain is moderately awesome. At low volume, where yer Mom wants you to play, kiddies... this thing rocks! Almost forgot to mention the headphone jack...just amazing cab emulation coming from it. Orange is definitely the new black and gold...

Comments about Orange Amplifiers Crush 20RT 20W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

I've used this Orange amp with several of my guitars; Epiphone Les Paul, BC Rich Mockingbird, Jackson Soloist, ESP LTD EC-331 and a few others. No complaints at all! I can achieve a nice warm sound, twang, metal crunch, and anything in between that I desire.

Reverb sounds good, not "echoey" or slapback sounding like that I've heard with cheaper amps. I's also used this amp with Pedal Steel Guitar, and it sounds beautiful, has plenty of power for a small practice room, and does not break up when you push it. 20 watts is a bit light for major gigging, although you could mic it. No output jacks other than headphone.

At the time I purchased this, the 35 watt model was almost 300 cash - I see they have now dropped in price a bit. If the 35 would have been a little closer in price, I would have maybe went for that one. But for the size/money, I couldn't be happier with this little 20.

Comments about Orange Amplifiers Crush 20RT 20W 1x8 Guitar Combo Amp:

Bought this used (for 2/3 the new price); it was a trade-in at GC. These 'crush' amps (and the solid state HKs) are the only SS amps that sound like 'tube character' to me. This one's impressive enough that it's replacing my similar-sized Fender Champion 600 (all-tube 'hotel-room amp' w/ 6" spkr)....The clean channel has plenty of little-amp headroom (the best 'clean' tone is still the dirt channel with the gain way down, though). The dirt side has a nice 'Orange overdrive' when you wind it up, but the reverb sproings horribly if you've set it for the clean side, then switch to the dirt channel with gain. Right now I'm using it as half my stereo bedroom rig, with a Ho-Tone Purple Wind/12" V30 on the other side. I run the dirt channel 'clean' (gain below '2'), and get both 'solo-tone' and reverb off my pedalboard.
This amp could use an EFX loop (and an ext spkr jack), but, practically speaking, doesn't really suffer without them: it's not ~quite~ going to keep up with a drummer live, so it's not a 'stage amp' (sure, you can mic it to the FOH/monitors, but, come on.....), and effects--even reverb--sound fine going in the front.
The little 8" speaker/closed-back cab carries the bottom end surprisingly well, and doesn't sound like it's stressing out at top volume.
It doesn't take up a lot of space in your trunk, either.....

The best small bedroom amp I have owned. This includes mustang one, champion 600, champion 20, Pico valve; vht ultra 6, Bugera v5 and others I can't remember. Transparent uncolored noiseless quality tone with a good speaker. Hint for the dirty channel, run the gain low and use stacked overdrive pedals for your dirty sound. No more harsh ice pick fizzy tones for me or 60 cycle hum and tubes. Search is finally over. Thanks Orange Amplification.
