Stage subwoofers are specialty PA speakers designed to handle low pitched bass frequencies. Subwoofers have to be tough in order to withstand the air pressure generated by low frequencies generated at high output levels. It used to be that the amount of bass on a record had to be limited – too much bass would cause the record to skip. Audio and recording technology evolved in the 1960s & 1970s and the amount of bass frequencies that recording and mastering engineers were able to capture on records changed. Home subwoofer systems have become more popular as DVDs featuring surround sound have become more popular, but the subwoofers we provide are designed for live music & club settings, and are not recommended for home use (unless you have a huge home!). The number of subwoofer enclosures you will need depends on a number of things, including the size of the venue and the type of music being broadcast over the PA system. Folk clubs may not need a subwoofer, but clubs featuring dance and rock music may need some extra help with the low end. Musician's Friend has stage subwoofers from the top brands, including JBL Stage Subwoofers and Bose Stage Subwoofers. As with everything we sell, all our Stage subwoofers are supported by our price & satisfaction guarantees and free standard shipping applies to all orders except heavy items.
